EMDR Therapy

In addition to its use for the treatment of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, EMDR has been successfully used for anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress, phobias, sleep problems, bereavement/ loss and self- esteem issues.

EMDR can accelerate therapy by resolving the impact of your past traumas and allowing you to live more fully in the present. The process is rapid and any disturbing experiences, if they occur at all, last for a comparatively short period of time. Please note that you do not have to share with the Therapist those thoughts as the Protocol can be conducted “content free”.

During EMDR treatment, you will remain in control, fully alert and wide-awake at all times. This is not a form of hypnosis and you can stop the process at any time. Throughout the session, the Therapist will support and facilitate your own self-healing and intervene as little as possible. Reprocessing is usually experienced as something that happens spontaneously, and new connections and insights are felt to arise quite naturally. Most people experience EMDR as being a natural and very empowering therapy.

EMDR is an innovative clinical treatment which has successfully helped over a million individuals. The validity and reliability of EMDR has been established by rigorous research. There are now nineteen controlled studies into EMDR making it the most thoroughly researched method used in the treatment of trauma.

Generally, the first session is 90 minutes so that the Therapist can take a full medical history and explain the process fully. Subsequent sessions are usually 60 minutes.

The number of required EMDR sessions can vary, depending on the nature and complexity of the issues. Some traumatic memories are completely resolved after just 2-3 session, whereas others may require more, this will be discussed during your initial consultation.

SCENAR Therapy

A full medical history will be taken (past and present) before the treatments begins. During treatment, the SCENAR device will be place on the skin to the affected area where a gently tingling sensation will be felt. As the healing begins, the skin may redden or change colour in relation to the surrounding area and/or the sound of the machine may change as it passes over the point of pain. This is the start of the healing process and the initial treatment may take up to one hour. Once the area begins to change (eg. The skin becomes less “sticky”, or it changes colour, or the tone of the machine changes) the SCENAR treatment is complete. Afterwards, you may feel an increase in energy, you may sleep better and generally feel more refreshed.

Anyone - young or old, who has suffered an injury or is experiencing either chronic or acute pain may benefit from SCENAR therapy.

No. A SCENAR machine is in continuous two- way feedback with the body, assessing what the body needs and sending back different impulses to the body to meet those needs. A TENS machine does not do this.

SCENAR can be used in conjunction with other therapies and conventional medicine.

SCENAR is licensed for use in the EU for pain relief, it is licensed by the British Standards Institute and carries a CE mark for pain relief. SCENAR has no known side effects.

SCENAR continues to work even after you have completed your course of treatment so don’t be concerned if you are discharged before you are completely better. Most people continue to improve for approximately three months after treatment and some continue to improve for up to five months. It is also common to experience flare ups of old symptoms and pain during this period as the body continues to heal and this is completely normal.

The number of treatments varies depending on the complaint, but acute problems usually need fewer treatments – for example acute back pain may only need 3-4 sessions. What we are looking for however, is incremental change – if you have had a problem for a long time, then it is not going to be resolved in just one session!

There are no known side effects. However, although this is a very safe treatment, it is recommended that patients with cardiac pacemakers, those suffering from epilepsy or those who are pregnant do not have this treatment.

For best results it is recommended that you do not bathe or shower for two hours before or after treatment, or to engage in demanding or stressful activities during that period. Also, please remember that your body takes time to heal! Your symptoms didn’t just suddenly appear, just as they took time to develop and establish themselves, recovery takes time and patience too!
